Universal Orlando Is Not Just a Disney Add-On Anymore

For a long time, a lot of families treated Universal Orlando like the extra thing you squeeze in after Disney.

A few days at Walt Disney World, maybe one day at Universal, and then head home.

And for some families, that can still work.

But Universal Orlando deserves a bigger conversation now.

With Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and Epic Universe, Universal is no longer just a quick side stop. For the right family, it can absolutely be the main vacation.

Who Universal Is Great For

Universal can be a great fit for families with older kids, teens, thrill ride fans, and Harry Potter fans.

If your kids are starting to want bigger rides, faster pacing, and something that feels a little different from Disney, Universal may hit really well.

It can also be a great option for families who have done Disney a few times and want an Orlando trip that feels fresh.

Why One Day May Not Be Enough

Trying to “just do one day at Universal” can sound efficient, but it often turns into a rushed, exhausting day.

There is a lot to see, especially if your family wants to visit more than one park, spend real time in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, experience Epic Universe, or add Volcano Bay.

A slower Universal trip usually makes for a better Universal trip.

More time gives you room for the parks, the resorts, CityWalk, pool time, dining, and actually enjoying the vacation instead of racing through it.

Your Hotel Choice Matters

At Universal, where you stay can make a big difference.

Some resorts offer easier transportation, early park access, and other benefits. Select Premier hotels can even include Unlimited Express Pass for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which can be a huge value depending on your dates and plans.

But that does not mean the most expensive hotel is always the right choice.

The best option depends on your family, your budget, your park plans, and how you want the trip to feel.

Should You Combine Disney and Universal?

Sometimes, yes.

A Disney and Universal split trip can be a great vacation.

But sometimes combining both makes the trip too packed, too expensive, or too scattered. You may be better off doing Disney now and Universal later, or making Universal its own trip altogether.

The goal is not to cram everything in.

The goal is to build the right vacation.

Let’s Plan It the Right Way

Universal Orlando is not just an add-on anymore.

For families with older kids, thrill ride fans, Harry Potter fans, or anyone wanting something different, it may deserve more than one rushed day at the end of a Disney trip.
