Exploration ships with Viking

This past Friday, I️ had the pleasure of touring the Polaris with a few other Travelmation Travel Advisors and to say we were impressed would be putting it lightly.

The Polaris is one of the ships in Viking’s Expedition Cruises fleet, launched in 2022. It is designed specifically for polar expeditions, offering a luxurious and comfortable experience while exploring some of the most remote and breathtaking destinations, such as Antarctica and the Arctic. The ship features cutting-edge technology, including a strengthened hull for ice navigation, and has been optimized for sustainability with eco-friendly features. The Polaris accommodates around 378 guests in all-suite staterooms, providing a high level of comfort, excellent dining, and onboard amenities like the Nordic spa, observation lounges, and an expedition team that helps guests understand the regions they are exploring.

Expedition Cruises vs. Ocean Cruises:

Destinations:

  • Expedition Cruises focus on remote and unique destinations like polar regions, the Galápagos Islands, or the Amazon River, which are often inaccessible to larger cruise ships.

Focus on Experience:

  • Expedition Cruises prioritize adventure, exploration, and immersion into nature, often offering activities such as kayaking, hiking, or wildlife viewing, with a focus on education through onboard experts and naturalists.

Guest Experience:

  • Expedition Cruises are often more intimate, with smaller groups, and emphasize a deeper connection with nature and local cultures.

In short, expedition cruises are about venturing into the wild and less-explored territories.
